The Nativity School of Worcester, Massachusetts suffered and act of vandalism on March 13, 2016. An arsonist broke into the school through a window in the ground floor and proceeded to set fire to a small pile of books in the hallway. After contacting the police, ServiceMaster Dynamic Cleaning was called in to restore the damage left behind. Our crews arrived onsite 10 minutes after receiving the call to begin mitigation.
Thankfully the fire damage was contained to the downstairs hallway due to the building's sprinkler system. This allowed the students to continue attending classes on the upper floors without interruption. However, the water damage from the sprinklers spread throughout the ground floor affecting the entryway, library and computer room.
Our crews removed the unsalvageable materials and dried the remaining materials while also protecting the school property contained in the rooms. Our job was complete and ready for rebuild in 5 days.
The Nativity School of Worcester is an all-boys school for underserved youths in grades 5 through 8. The school provides extended school days, summer programs, organized activities and graduate programs for the students. Both the water and fire remediation was complete in five days. Pending reconstruction, the ground floor library and computer rooms should be up and running within the next two weeks. Our goal was to get the school back to pre-loss condition with minimal interruption to the student's academics. A great success!
